Hypothermic resuscitation at the University of Pennsylvania is featured in this week's edition of Newsweek Magazine and on Newsweek.com. Click below to view the Newsweek clip which features Lance Becker, MD, a noted cardiac care specialist and frequent lecturer at Emergency Cardiovascular Care Update (ECCU) conferences sponsored by the Citizen CPR Foundation, and learn more about the the dramatic results being experienced when cardiac arrest patients are cooled to 34-degrees and then gradually rewarmed over a 24 hour period.

Think this won't be occurring in your ambulance? Think again. EMS system in the United States have already begun to implement hypothermic cooling and resuscitation of cardiac arrest patients with dramatic results. Look for a special report in October JEMS to learn how this procedure in being done in the field. It will be one of the "coolest" articles you've ever read. (pun intended).
