Early next month, thousands of EMS, fire and police personnel will journey to Baltimore for the 73rd annual APCO International Conference & Exposition, Aug. 5Ï9. The conference offers three unique opportunities for public safety communications professionals:

First, the conference includes four full days of educational sessions, with more than 100 sessions in eight different tracks. There are sessions planned on managing a communications center, planning for a terrorist attack or natural disaster, designing and building a new facility, updates on new technologies, legislation and regulation information and much more.

To give you a taste of what_s in store, the keynote speaker is Captain Larry Brudnicki, who commanded the Coast Guard Cutter Tamaroa during the Perfect Storm of October 1991. Brudnicki was involved in two dramatic rescues during the storm, and conference attendees will have the opportunity to hear his firsthand account of the experience, along with learning how to make the correct decision under the most difficult circumstances.

Second, the conference provides an unparalleled opportunity to network with public safety professionals from all over the world. You can discuss issues and problems you_re having and learn how others have tried to resolves similar issues. You_ll gain the most when you reach out and meet new people. There are several scheduled opportunities for networking, beginning with the opening reception.

And third, attendees will have the opportunity to see the latest and greatest in equipment and services at nearly 900 booths. Use the information available on the APCO Web site to learn more about the companies that will be demonstrating the products and services they offer and to prioritize your time. You can even use the site to make appointments with specific exhibitors in advance of the conference.

It_s not too late to register for sessions or a pass to visit the exhibit hall for a day. Representatives of more than 400 companies will be on hand with their latest products and services. Don_t miss it!
