Numerous Injuries on Massachusetts Interstate

(AP) SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - State police say one person died and six others were seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 in Springfield that may be alcohol related.



Police say the incident started with a minor accident between an SUV and a taxi on city streets just after 2 a.m. on Friday.



The SUV fled onto the highway's southbound lanes and the taxi followed.



The SUV went out of control and struck the center guardrail.



The male driver of the SUV, four male passengers, and one female passenger were taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries. One male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Names were not released.



The cab driver was not hurt.



The southbound lanes of I-91 were closed for about 3 1/2 hours after the accident.
