Former Louisville EMT helps rescue bridge victims

Another five seconds, and Jay Reeves figures he might have been a casualty in the Minneapolis bridge collapse that left at least four dead.

The former Louisville and Fort Knox paramedic was about 100 yards away from the I-35W bridge, driving on a street that goes underneath the bridge when he saw debris and dust.

If I would have been 5 seconds faster at that moment, I would have been underneath it, Reeves said in an interview this morning. Initially you think it s not happening. It s unbelievable.

After collecting himself, Reeves, 39, called 911, but the lines were busy. He pulled his car over to side and got out, then saw a school bus precariously tilted on a portion of the collapsed bridge behind semi-tractor trailer that was on fire.
