CROWN POINT, Ind. - Authorities say a semitrailer slammed into a pickup truck that had slowed down on Interstate 65 in northwestern Indiana, killing a couple and their three children riding in the truck.

State police say all five died when the pickup truck was crushed between two semitrailers and caught fire about 4 a.m. Friday near the Lake County city of Crown Point.

Police say the semitrailer could not stop in time when it came upon slowed traffic after cresting a hill.

Those killed were 33-year-old Brian W. Workman and 31-year-old Joanna L. Workman, along with 13-year-old Ashley, 8-year-old Tyler and 1-year-old Ryan Workman. They were from Hobart.

Police closed the highway for more than six hours after the crash.

Police say the semi drivers were not injured.
