Most of us would rather carry four patients down a set of stairs than one patient up the stairs. ItÌs easier with gravity on your side. The same holds true for changing the main oxygen bottle in your ambulance. A full steel "H" cylinder weighs 117 lbs. and an "M" weighs 58 lbs. Trying to lift and maneuver these cylinders into the tight confines of the main oxygen compartment with proper body mechanics would confound a physical therapist.
