Adult intraosseous (IO) access has made medication delivery easier, but not every patient has cooperative anatomy. Patients with excess tissue over the IO insertion site, whether from edema, large musculature or obesity, need a longer needle to reach the marrow cavity. TheEZ-IO LD Needle SetfromVidacare includes a 45-mm needle (compared to the 25-mm regular adult needle), and it's designed to accommodate these types of patients. Simply place the needle on the EZ-IO driver as you normally would, insert the needle through the tissue, and make sure one of the 5-mm lines is visible before entering the bone.
