SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. - Authorities are investigating how the floor of a South Florida condo building and hotel collapsed, despite passing recent inspections.

An elderly woman and her daughter were rescued by firefighters and hospitalized in the accident late Sunday, but the property manager says they avoided serious injury. Authorities did not identify the victims.

The hole at the Marco Polo Beach Resort in Sunny Isles Beach opened 15 feet wide and 7 feet deep.

Authorities are trying to determine if the wooden floor's collapse is a sign of more serious problems. The building holds 509 condos and 109 hotel rooms.

The Marco Polo wasn't evacuated, but authorities blocked off lower floors.
