Fran Hildwine, BS, NREMT-P, CCEMT-P | From the June 2009 Issue | Monday, June 1, 2009

The JEMS product review team, a group of seasoned EMS providers, scoured the exhibit hall at the EMS Today Conference & Exhibition in March looking for the most innovative, functional and potentially life-saving products to come onto the market in the past six months. This year, the team evaluated more than 70 new products, but they selected the following top 30 (presented inalphabetical order), because they felt they offered remarkable improvements to patient care and provider performance. Look for many of the other products released at EMS Today in future JEMS Hands On columns.

AtFast Anti-Choking Trainer
The ActFast Anti-Choking Trainer is a true breakthrough in CPR training. Put on the vest and try your technique; if it’s poor, nothing happens. But if your hand position and technique are correct, a foam plug shoots into the air, providing exciting proof of success. This device allows instructors to know when their students have learned the technique properly. It’s easy, fun and foolproof, and works in conjunction with a standard bag-valve mask. Students leave class trained and confident, and they never forget.
