NC EMS Train for Medicopter Transports

Members of the Raleigh (N.C.) Fire Department and Wake County (N.C.) EMS participate in a real-time training exercise to practice and refine the important handoff processes between ground and flight crews. In the drill scenario, an infant had been run over by a motor vehicle. The patient was rapidly and smoothly transferred to the helicopter stretcher and oxygen/bag valve mask procedures were handed off before being transported to a WakeMed Air Mobile 1 medical helicopter. Once secured in the helicopter, the WakeMed flight crew did an assessment of the patient to make sure the transfer was performed correctly, and then prepared for flight to a nearby hospital.
