SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y. — Welch Allyn, a leading global provider of frontline medical products and solutions, recently sent a team of employees on a mission trip to Guatemala as part of a humanitarian effort sponsored by Heart to Heart International. Welch Allyn has long been a supporter of Heart to Heart, a nonprofit organization that provides relief in disaster- and poverty-stricken areas. For six days, the group educated elementary school children on the importance of healthcare and trained doctors and nurses how to use Welch Allyn diagnostic devices donated by the company to clinics in the region.

“Welch Allyn has always valued giving back to those in need, a culture that was created by my grandfather, W. G. Allyn,” said David Allyn, director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). “I know my effort in Guatemala contributed to the company’s humanitarian initiatives, but this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to make a difference in the lives of people struggling to obtain basic human needs. We are passionate about improving the health and well-being of people and communities around the world, and I am grateful to continue the legacy my grandfather began decades ago.”

Also traveling in the Welch Allyn group with Allyn were Matt Chadderdon, vice president, Marketing Communications and Global Brand Management; Sue Mangicaro, director, Clinical Affairs; and Danielle Gillmore, a Final Assembly supervisor who won the opportunity to join the group during the company’s 2011 United Way fundraising campaign.

“I’m proud to represent Welch Allyn on this mission trip,” said Gillmore. “Offering this kind of opportunity to employees is the difference between working for a company whose only focus is on the bottom line versus a family-owned company that cares about its people, its community and the world.”
