In Memoriam: Okla. Paramedic Gary Loard

Gary Loard

| Wednesday, March 21, 2012

After a lifetime of service to others in their most desperate time of need Gary Loard, Medic 501, answered his last call to service on March 3, 2012. Gary answered the call while surrounded by his family and friends at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Gary was born in Ardmore, OK on November 30, 1972 to Troy and Angie Loard. Gary enjoyed a loving, active and sometimes mischievous childhood while growing up in Lone Grove. After graduating Lone Grove High School, Gary attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of Central Oklahoma. He has lived in the Tuttle community since 2003.

He began his life's calling in 1997, at first as an EMT and later as a National Registered Paramedic. Gary saved and comforted countless lives while working for EMSA – Paramedics Plus in Oklahoma City, eventually becoming Director of Operations. While on his watch as Director, EMSA became both CAAF and ACE accredited.

While Gary was very proud of his work with EMSA and honored to serve others, his greatest joy was the birth of his children, Aspen Ashleigh and Gage Tyler. His greatest pleasures were watching them compete in sports, taking them on adventures or just “roughhousing” at home. An avid sports fan and hunter, his biggest smiles came when Aspen got a hit or made a shot and Gage made a tackle or got a “buck.” One of his most favorite places on earth was his deer stand with his father and his son.

Gary is survived by his “two miracles” his children, Aspen and Gage Loard, both of Tuttle; his loving parents, Troy and Angie Loard of Lone Grove; his brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Carol Loard of Idabel; nephews, Austin and Clayton Loard of Idabel; devoted friends, Robin and Shelby Schluter; his entire EMSA Family and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Clayton Dale Loard, grandparents, Buford and Maggie Loard and Bill and Dreta Luetkahans, and an aunt, Ruby Tudor and husband Malcome.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Westmoore Community Church in Oklahoma City followed by interment in Tuttle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request anyone wishing to honor Gary's memory do so by making a donation to LifeShare Transplant Donor Services of Oklahoma.

On Saturday, Medic 501 went 10-7 here on Earth. He is now 10-8 in Heaven.
