Richard Zuschlag, Acadian CEO and chairman, has been awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 Award in the Healthcare and Healthcare Services category for the Gulf Coast Region.

Considered the world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs, the Entrepreneur of the Year Award celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses, recognizing them through regional, national and global awards programs in more than 140 cities in more than 50 countries. The United States regional winners are honored in June before moving on to the national awards ceremony in Palm Springs, Calif., in November. Now in its 26th year, the program has honored business leaders such as Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com, Michael Dell of Dell Inc., Fred Smith of FedEx, Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google, Richard Schulze of Best Buy, Reid Hoffman and Jeff Weiner of LinkedIn.

Zuschlag co-founded Acadian four decades ago as an ambulance service, and has developed it into a multi-division company that spans the globe and employs over 3,700 people.

“I couldn’t be more honored to receive this award and be in the company of such incredibly talented individuals,” Zuschlag said. “However, Acadian’s achievements are not mine alone. The true success of our business remains in the day-to-day enthusiasm and hard work of all of our amazing employees. They are the reason why Acadian has flourished and continues to succeed.”

Since 1971, Acadian has been committed to providing the highest level of emergency medical care and transportation possible. In the past decade, the company has expanded to include a diverse suite of services in health, safety and transportation. Acadian’s six divisions are Acadian Ambulance Service, Acadian Monitoring Services, Air Med, Executive Aircraft Charter Service, National EMS Academy and Safety Management Systems.
