Acadian Ambulance, an emergency and non-emergency medical transportation provider to Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi, is now implementing an annual EMT boot camp as part of their commitment to safety.

The company’s service area districts hold quarterly staff meetings to review the latest operational changes and advancements, receive updates on procedures and policies, and learn from various guest speakers about different aspects of the industry. Now, one of those four meetings per year will be devoted to a safety boot camp, which will allow medics to also receive hands-on skills refresher training, classroom instruction, annual vaccinations and respirator fit testing, and to have their equipment audited.

The boot camp will provide refreshers of routine procedures by having the medics rotate through different stations where they perform required tasks, including patient handling with different devices, ambulance driving and maneuvering, proper use of personal protective equipment, and more.   After the hands-on skill sessions, medics will attend a keynote lecture to reacquaint themselves with the different safety equipment and rules.

Jerry Romero, Acadian’s senior vice president of operations, says, “These boot camps are a great opportunity for our medics to practice the fundamentals while safely performing a variety of procedures, and are another instance in which we are promoting a culture of safety in every possible way that we can.”

Since 1971, Acadian has been committed to providing the highest level of emergency medical care and transportation possible. In the past decade, the company has expanded to include a diverse suite of services in health, safety, and transportation. Acadian’s six divisions are Acadian Ambulance Service, Acadian Monitoring Services, Air Med, Executive Aircraft Charter Service, National EMS Academy and Safety Management Systems.
